Alex
Alex was raised on a wheat farm and cow-calf operation on the plains of North West Oklahoma. She grew up showing livestock in 4-H and FFA. She learned there was so much more to be learned in working with animals. From a young age she’s been an adventurous outdoors-woman and huntress. She would go out with her dad and watch the deer and turkeys come through the woods. While hunting on a particular place, they stumbled upon a covey of quail and watched them interact with each other. It was a neat memory she thinks back on fondly. Her dad and uncle used to hunt quail with English Pointers back in the day and she grew up with their last female named Bell. In 2021, when she was in Nursing School, she started hearing a calling from the Lord to enter into the upland bird dog world. She started doing her research and bought a Vizsla named Mesa that Fall. One of her dear friends/ mentor encouraged her to apply for the Ronnie Smith Kennels Apprenticeship in the Spring of 2022. During the Apprenticeship, a whole new world had opened up to her. The Kennel was a place where she felt like she truly belonged and sparked a fire inside of her. There she learned how to study and read the behavior of the dogs and gain a deeper respect than ever before. There is so much to be learned from studying a bird dog. The little nuances of each dog reflects a huge difference in training. After she completed the Advanced Huntsmith Bird Dog Apprenticeship. She began working for Ronnie Smith Kennels as an Assistant Trainer in the Fall of 2022. She continues to learn and study on a deeper level under the tutelage of Ronnie Smith and Susanna Love Smith. She enjoys creating a fulfilling partnership with the dogs she encounters. For her, this is an amazing once in a lifetime experience she is forever grateful for.
Alex met her fiancé Dylan when she was on the road to nursing school and he was a State Trooper. Together they now have two Vizslas, Mesa and Rhett, that she has trained with the RSK program. She is also working with a Belgian Malinois that Dylan trained as an protection dog. She has plans on attending field trials and hunt tests to enjoy the time with her Vizslas.
